The Professional Golfers Association, which represents the
TaylorMade 2009 Burner Irons teaching pro and those who staff on-course equipment shops through the UK and Ireland, has struck a blow for women’s emancipation.
It has nominated Beverly Lewis to be its captain in 2005/06 – the first time in the PGA’s 101 year history that a woman has been put
TaylorMade R9 Irons forward for this prestigious post, currently held by ex-Ryder Cup player and course designer, Dave Thomas.
Lewis is one of the women’s professional game pioneers. She teaches at the Essex Golf Complex in Southend-on-Sea, Essex and regularly acts as an
TaylorMade R9 Max Irons on-course commentator for the BBC golf team.
PGA chief executive Sandy Jones said the idea to suggest
Golf Clubs for Sale the nomination of a woman as captain had occurred to him at last year’s US Masters.
